Why Use DOFF to Clean Stone?

What Is DOFF Cleaning?

DOFF cleaning is a steam-based stone cleaning method developed by Stonehealth, using low-pressure, high-heat water. The DOFF machine expels water at a much higher temperature than your average steam washer, reaching around 150 degrees Celsius at the nozzle.

The DOFF system ensures no damage to the substrate during the cleaning process by using low water pressure, making it a perfect tool for working on fragile historic materials or stone statues. The DOFF steam cleaning machine improves the aesthetic of any facade, providing a deep and effective clean.

What Can DOFF Be Used For?

• Brick
• Granite
• Concrete
• Marble
• Limestone
• Sandstone
• Grease And Bitumen Removal
• Chewing gum and other biological materials

Why Use DOFF to Clean Stone?

Jet-washing stone can be potentially damaging due to the high pressure. The force of the water can cut into the surface, leaving gouges in the facade. This is especially harmful when dealing with historical stone buildings or statues, where the goal is always to restore original features, not damage them further. Another common cleaning method is TORC which uses a mixture of water and very finely milled granulate to clean using high-pressure air and small amounts of water.

Instead of using potentially damaging water jets to clean your stonework, the DOFF steam cleaning tool, combining heat and low pressure, ensures that unwanted stains and matter are removed without eroding or causing any damage to the surface beneath.

The DOFF machine can gently remove paint, graffiti, algae, moss, grease, and carbon pollution and is especially effective with biological staining.

The Importance of Cleaning Stone

Maintaining and cleaning your property is crucial to ensure its health, especially in the UK when the weather can be harsh and damaging for natural materials. For example, lingering moisture can grow moss and algae on the stone's surface. Not only does this look unappealing, but this can create the perfect environment for more significant plant matter to grow, leading to much more expensive damage in the long term.
