Brick Work Restoration

The Project

We know the importance of ensuring external repairs are completed to the highest quality possible. Maintaining and restoring the façade of any property helps to prevent damage, and also avoids future disasters from occurring.

It is this experience and innovation that helped us complete a recent project from a previous client, a property management client in need of our brick repair and restore service.

The Site

We were contacted by this property management client through recommendations of a previous client that we had delivered services to. The primary focus of the project was to ensure that the dampness of the building was repaired, through fundamental brick work restoration. 

The property was suffering from severe dampness because there were no damp proof course within the brickwork to resolve this problem. Our team lowered the level of the ground along the brick work of the property and installed a drainage system so that any water at the base of the property could run into the drainage. The purpose of the works was also to let the brickwork breath.

The Logistics

To commence this repair we excavated a channel that was 150mm wide x two bricks deep at the external walls to enable the installation of an aco channel drainage channel .To ensure a good excavation is made we repaired the excavation wall before doing so, and we sealed this with black jack ( an additional grill will be required at the floor level to prevent a trip hazard.) 

The purpose of the work is to lower the floor level adjacent to the external wall by two bricks, and to make a drain covering which is flush with the existing floor height. This will allow the wall to dry out at low level. The aco channel must drain to a drainage outlet preferably a rain water outlet

The Challenges

This brick work repair project, showed many challenges that our experienced team had to overcome. The brickwork had been previously painted with a non breathable paint,  so the dampness that was currently present could not also escape making the problem significantly worst. To recondition this, we stripped back the pain of the brickwork to let it breath before carrying out the works of installing an aco drain around the perimeter of the building.

Alongside the challenge of the breathability of the brickwork,  brick pointing was also needed to be revamped with lime mortar to allow the brickwork to breath, cement mortar is less breathable. Once the works were completed, we repainted the brickwork back to match the rest of the building but with a breathable paint. Ensuring that the paint shade and colour is an exact true match is a complex challenge in itself, but our team carries substantial amounts of skills and specialist knowledge to every project ;  we’re ready for any spike or obstacle that we are faced with.

The Highlights

Despite the many challenges that were posed by the project, one of the biggest highlights was seeing our team overcome these to deliver high-quality brick work restoration results.

Our final highlight was being able to give our clients the most cost-effective project possible. We were able to perfectly colour match our paint with the rest of the exterior, which helped ensure that we could fully restore their facade.
