This client was a well-established construction company who required a time-sensitive brick tinting and repair project delivered ahead of practical completion of the overall works.
The first step was a pre-start meeting to discuss and agree on a joint program of works that enabled both projects to coincide and not create any delays.
The Project
The works involved altering the shade of newly laid bricks to match the existing (a specialist brick tinting service.) A brick tinting process is whereby bricks are stained/tinted to match existing brickwork, or their colour is altered for more visually appealing results. Colour pigments are combined with a fixing agent (potassium silicate) and once this saturates the brick, the tint is permanent.
The Site
The access requirements were not straightforward as the roof level was still being built. So, working in conjunction with the roofing contractors, we were able to utilise the exposed roof structures for anchoring the ropes for our IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) trained abseiling technicians. This in turn allowed our specialists to access the facades requiring brick tinting with ease, eliminating the need for erecting scaffolding, and proving cost-saving benefits to the main contractor.
The Logistics
The works had a deadline, which we were able to achieve by deploying a larger team to speed up the project and support the client in completing overall deadline commitments at exceptional standards.
Rope Access VS Scaffolding
As mentioned earlier, this specialist brick restoration service was completed via rope. Yet, what are the main benefits of this form of access?
- Rope access is a huge money-saving option as there’s no need for the costly set-up and materials that come with the use of scaffolding (this project was no exception.)
- Scaffolding can block natural light on the inside of a property during the works; abseiling doesn’t create this problem.
- Rope access is less intrusive.
Our abseilers were also able to restore every corner of brickwork on this facade.
