Case Study:Metal Cladding Replacement

The Project

An existing client reached out to our team with the request for a cladding replacement job which included removing and replacing an unsecured cladding panel on their property.

Our team’s fast reaction meant that an inspection of the works was taken place soon after the enquiry. A plan and strategy were put in place by our repair team, and it was then agreed with the client that the most cost-effective and best-suited way of access to the site was via rope.

The Site 

With an effective plan in place and our IRATA abseiling repair specialist team equipped with the correct tools, we were ready to tackle this project.

To start, we safely remove the damaged cladding panel, leaving the remaining void area safe from any loose fixings. The removal of the panel had to be done with precision and great care to ensure that any loose parts would not fall and cause health hazards to our team or the residents near and surrounding the site. So an eye for detail as well as industry knowledge was essential here.

After this, we took measurements for the replacement panel to be manufactured and powder coating for an exact match to the existing one, allowing a seamless result. 

Once the manufacturing had been complete, it was time for our team to install it securely and safely. Our IRATA approved abseil methodology was undertaken by our trained and experienced technicians, which was performed smoothly, successfully and safely.

The Challenges

One challenge that we were faced with was physically transporting the new panel into position to be installed due to the height and fairly awkward location. 

We overcame this by using suction cups and pulley systems rigged from the roof level, which gave us more flexible access to the site.

Cost-effective Solutions

As the site and area were best suited for both scaffolding and abseiling access, meaning another contractor could’ve completed the works by using scaffolding, making the overall cost of this project rise significantly.
