Located on a busy street in Tower Hamlets, this converted residential property had become heavily marked with graffiti across two prominent elevations at street level. The client, a long-standing partner we support across many properties in London, required a rapid, high-quality graffiti removal solution to restore the building’s appearance without disrupting residents or the general public.

The Project

The scope focused on the removal of all visible graffiti from the building’s stone façade. The project was delivered on schedule and within budget, with the added application of a specialist anti-graffiti coating to help prevent future damage.

The Solution

We began with a detailed surface evaluation to determine the safest and most effective removal method. While a professional-grade graffiti treatment was used for most areas, sections with deeper staining required a second visit and the use of TORC cleaning, a low-pressure granulate vortex system ideal for removing persistent graffiti without damaging delicate stonework.

After successfully removing all the tags, we returned the following day to apply a two-part, water-based anti-graffiti coating. This clear, durable coating forms a protective barrier over the surface, allowing for easier removal of any future graffiti. It is especially suitable for public-facing environments such as schools, hospitals and residential buildings due to its low-odour, low-impact formulation.

The Challenges

The main challenge came from the condition of the substrate and the age of the graffiti. Some of the tagging had been left untreated for an extended period, causing deeper absorption into the porous stone surface. As a property situated in a high-footfall area of central London, the works also required careful coordination to ensure public safety and minimal disruption. With extensive experience delivering projects across the capital — often in busy, pedestrian-heavy locations — our team is well-versed in managing logistical challenges with professionalism and discretion. Combined with our in-depth knowledge of stone restoration techniques, this allowed us to clean the façade safely, respectfully and efficiently, while protecting the integrity of the original material.

A protective anti-graffiti coating was applied for long-term impact

Results

Thanks to careful planning and the use of specialist TORC cleaning, we were able to fully remove the graffiti and restore the natural appearance of the stone. The anti-graffiti coating was applied as requested, offering long-term protection against future tagging and helping the building maintain its clean, professional appearance.

All work was completed safely from ground level, and the project was delivered on time and within budget. The client was pleased with the outcome and continues to rely on Spectrum for ongoing works across their wider portfolio.
