How to Disinfect A Building from Viruses - Specialist Cleaning

In our latest blog, our team of property maintenance specialists here at Spectrum will share their top strategies to disinfect your building to prevent the spread of airborne viruses during the Autumn and Winter months.

What does a Deep Sanitisation Cleaning Process include?

Consider the type of surface and how often the surface is touched. The more people who touch a surface, the higher the risk. Prioritize cleaning high-touch surfaces at least once a day. If the space is a high traffic area, or if certain conditions (listed above) apply, you may choose to clean more frequently or disinfect in addition to cleaning.

Preparing Your Building for Disinfection

The first stage is to plan and prepare your cleaning process by considering where the high traffic areas are located within your premises. The more people who encounter a surface creates the higher risk of transmission.

It has not been confirmed exactly how long a virus like COVID-19 can remain on a surface, but the consensus is it ranges from a few hours to several days. Therefore, we see in high-footfall areas such as restaurants, theme parks, cinemas, shopping centers, etc., cleaning teams are deployed to wipe down surface areas every time a customer exits the vicinity.

The frequently touched surfaces surrounding your premises are likely to include the following:

• Doorknobs, doorplates & handles

• Light switches

• Outdoor Chairs / Benches

• Lifts and escalators

• Handrails.

• Postboxes

• Any additional public areas.

Building owners should therefore consider when routine cleaning and disinfection should take place based on busy footfall periods during the day.

Training and PPE

After the planning and preparation process has been concluded, the next stage for any building owner is to ensure their cleaning staff has been professionally trained. The Spectrum team for example is fully versed in the cleaning agents that are used and wears full PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) to keep them safe from any harmful chemicals they could be exposed to during the disinfection process.

Building owners need to consider the impact of the disinfection process on their occupants to keep them safe and always protected too. The Spectrum team will discuss with the building owner if access to a particular area needs to be restricted, and if so set up barrier or rope access systems to conduct our deep cleaning service.

Steam Treatment for Building Disinfection

Typically, a regular disinfection program will wipe down and remove bacteria that live on the surface.

But when a building needs a deep clean and disinfection to either contain or prevent the further spread of an outbreak, a high-temperature steam application is required.

COVID-19 has a lipid host cell membrane which means it is sensitive to extreme temperatures. Using high-temperature steam and boiling water treatment using Spectrum’s specialist cleaning equipment is an amazingly effective way of reducing contact transmission.

Why You Should Use Professional Technicians for Your Building Disinfecting

At Spectrum, we have responded to the needs of our clients by deploying our specialist Steam Cleaning System to conduct a professional deep cleaning and disinfection solution for building owners.

Our team of experts uses a coating of high-temperature, low-pressure steam after areas have been disinfected to completely kill off all remaining bacteria.

This solution is only available with industrial machines which is why calling in the professionals to deep clean your building is really the only solution this Autumn and Winter.
