Spectrum takes safety incredibly seriously. Many of the projects our teams work on require operatives to work at height, and many of the buildings we clean are occupied by residential or commercial tenants. Ensuring all necessary safety measures are in place helps to keep our operatives safe and protects the members of the public using the properties.
Before carrying out work on a building, our operatives inspect and test the safety systems in place. This ensures they are safe to use and fully up to date when our teams begin work on site. All equipment is tested to current BSEN standards and our teams are fully trained in all relevant areas of safety regulation.
Our operatives work with a number of safety systems when cleaning roofs, cladding, windows, balconies and other external surfaces. Understanding how these systems operate, and checking they are in good working order, helps to ensure the safety of all of the people working on site.
Virtually all safety systems need to be tested on a regular basis to ensure they are working as they should. Our expert operatives are able to carry out these tests and check that all systems meet current safety regulations, including BS EN 793, BS EN 795 and BS EN 7883.
Mansafe systems are an essential piece of safety equipment. These systems are vital whenever people are working at height. These effective systems help to protect workers and people on the ground should a fall occur, and should always be used when cleaning is being carried out at height.
Latchways Mansafe systems are horizontal safety lines designed to keep people safe whilst working at height. They are often installed on roofs and are used by cleaning teams, surveyors and other professionals who need to examine or work on the exterior of a building. These essential systems must be inspected and tested annually according to N795 Standards. This helps to ensure the systems are always working as they should.
Roof safety wires are another common fall prevention system. Like Latchways Mansafe systems, they need to be tested every 12 months to ensure they are working in accordance with current British standards BS EN 795 and BS EN 7883. If it is a vertical system, BS EN 353 is the standard it will need to meet. Our operatives are able to test these systems quickly and thoroughly. During the inspection, they will check every part of the system and report any issues that need attention to the property owner.
Cable-based fall arrest systems are used to ensure the safety of operatives who work at height. These systems, and all their working parts, need to be tested annually to ensure they are in accordance with European Standards EN 795.
Eyebolts and abseil anchors are found on many high-rise buildings and large commercial properties. If they are not kept in good condition, they can pose a serious risk to any operatives working at height. Our teams can test eyebolts and abseil anchors to ensure they comply with all relevant safety standards.
Rail-based systems are commonly found on large buildings and properties where access is an issue. They are often referred to by their brand name as Uni-rail™, Multirail™, Allatro™ and Technelec™. Each of these systems must comply with British Standards BS EN 353-1.

When hiring contractors to do any maintenance on the property's I manage, safety is the first property. The high stands of Spectrums safety systems and the incorporation of safety systems into every service is is why I go to Spectrum for work on the exterior of the facilities I oversea.

Spectrum have a good response time and an enthusiastic team, in my experience of using them so far. The costs are reasonable given the complex access issues on some buildings but far more cost effective than erecting scaffold. Their abseil service is reliable and allows urgent repairs to be completed in a much quicker time frame....

Ensuring the safety of our team, and everyone else who uses a site, is one of our top priorities. Before starting work on any job, our operatives will thoroughly inspect the safety equipment present to ensure it meets all relevant safety standards.
When we are not working to clean and restore the exterior of a building, our teams are often out at various sites inspecting and testing their safety equipment. This testing should take place every 12 months, and rectification of any maintenance issues found should be carried out immediately.
Every time our operatives test and inspect onsite safety equipment, they produce a full report for the property owner(s) or management company. This report contains all relevant videos and photos of the safety equipment along with our recommendations and observations. Having a detailed report to work from makes it easier to address any safety or maintenance issues and keep all equipment fully compliant with current British standards.
British Standards are there to help ensure the safety and security of everyone using the safety equipment on site. When our teams test and inspect safety systems, they make sure that they comply with all relevant safety standards. Spectrum is kept notified of any changes made to these standards. This helps our teams ensure safety systems are 100% compliant.
Manufacturer guidelines, and BS EN 795, dictate that safety systems should be inspected and tested at least every 12 months. An independent risk assessment should also be undertaken every year to determine if more frequent testing is required.
As well as carrying out this all-important testing, Spectrum will notify you when an inspection is due. This will help you to keep your buildings compliant with current regulations and protect the people working on your properties.
Because our operatives regularly use safety equipment to clean and inspect buildings, they are in the perfect position to carry out the necessary safety tests. Our operatives have worked with all of the safety systems out there and are very familiar with the different types of system in place across the country. Our teams will use their extensive experience to identify any faults or maintenance issues and will put their recommendations in a detailed inspection report.
Properly maintaining the safety equipment on your property is essential. Inspecting and testing these systems helps to protect the people working on your building and keeps the property compliant with all relevant safety regulations.
