Ensuring the safety of our team, and everyone else who uses a site, is one of our top priorities. Before starting work on any job, our operatives will thoroughly inspect the safety equipment present to ensure it meets all relevant safety standards.

When we are not working to clean and restore the exterior of a building, our teams are often out at various sites inspecting and testing their safety equipment. This testing should take place every 12 months, and rectification of any maintenance issues found should be carried out immediately.

Every time our operatives test and inspect onsite safety equipment, they produce a full report for the property owner(s) or management company. This report contains all relevant videos and photos of the safety equipment along with our recommendations and observations. Having a detailed report to work from makes it easier to address any safety or maintenance issues and keep all equipment fully compliant with current British standards.

Adherence to British Standards

British Standards are there to help ensure the safety and security of everyone using the safety equipment on site. When our teams test and inspect safety systems, they make sure that they comply with all relevant safety standards. Spectrum is kept notified of any changes made to these standards. This helps our teams ensure safety systems are 100% compliant.

Annual inspection reminders

Manufacturer guidelines, and BS EN 795, dictate that safety systems should be inspected and tested at least every 12 months. An independent risk assessment should also be undertaken every year to determine if more frequent testing is required.

As well as carrying out this all-important testing, Spectrum will notify you when an inspection is due. This will help you to keep your buildings compliant with current regulations and protect the people working on your properties.

Eyebolt installation

This is the process by which eyebolts are physically installed and attached to the surface of a building. We can install eyebolts into a variety of substrates such as concrete, brickwork and steel.

When installing eyebolts, we make sure that every positioning conforms to BS EN795:1997 Protection against falls from a height — anchor devices — requirements and testing, and the BS 7883:2005 Code of Practice for the design, selection, installation, use and maintenance of anchor devices conforming to BS EN795.

Eyebolt certification

By law, every eyebolt installed must be tested for strength and security at least once a year. Our team of engineers can carry out these tests, and also ensure that each eyebolt will be labelled with PPE identification tags. This will state the individual eyebolt ID, category of use and the next test due date. Any eyebolts that fail the testing procedure will be fitted with ‘Do Not Use’ tags or permanently removed if convenient.

After the tests have been carried out, a test certificate will be issued if the results are satisfactory. This certificate will also include any recommendations for any remedial work necessary. We will supply you with location sheets, which detail the exact location of all eyebolts, both those that passed and those that failed.

Eyebolt repairs

It is possible that some eyebolts or safety systems will require repairs before they can be signed off against British Standards. We will identify the offending bolts and their locations, and carry out the necessary repairs to ensure they meet British Standards.

Eyebolt testing

British Standards require that anchor devices used for fall arrest systems should be examined on an annual basis. This is in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions for Mansafe testing. Eyebolt testing should be carried out by a competent person authorised by the manufacturer. If the eyebolts are used for work positioning or rope access, then line testing should be carried out every six months.
